My 4ft tank installed with a 4ft Overhead filter + 2 x Eheim Canister 2028, whether it is enough for this bioload as follows:-

9 Panaque sp. (Royal Pleco L191, L190, 3 L027b, 2 L027c, 2 L330)
5 Silver Dollars (4")
1 Silver Arowana (7")

Howdy,

congrats on the good choice of Eheim filters . Theoretically, your filtration is more than enough for now. Filtration, however, also greatly depends on what filter media you use and what your filter cleaning habits are. It is advisable that your use a combination of mechanical and biological filtration in each Eheim, as mentioned in the filter manual. Furthermore, you should only clean canister filters when the flow rate decreases greatly, and never clean them all at the same time. When the flow rate decreases, a new prefilter pad might be all you need.

In the long run, you might want to think about upgrading your tank when the fish outgrow the 4'. But you'll notice when the time comes.

Hi HarleyK, thanks for your advice and much appreciated.
The OHF is very much for mechanical filtration whereas Eheim Canister acts as biological filtration. So far, this combination seem working well.
I do realize that when the silver arowanas grow to 2ft, then I would have a problem and therefore making plan to upgrade to 7 footer that equip with sump filtration.

Did you make your overhead filter?
This set is a commerical product and pretty common here in Singapore.

Can we see a closer pic of the filter setup. Looks like it would be a good DIY project.

Thanks

This is the close-up photo of the 4ft OHF. The brand is 'CL' and I think it's from Taiwan.

How does the water drain back down into the tank? Is there a series of small holes in the bottom of the containers that just all run back into the tank individually?

Sorry for the questins just have not seem a setup like that.

Actually, all the 9 container has many small holes on its bottom, all the water will then collected at the bottom tray and channel back to the main tank.

Hope this below illustration can explain further.
