Hi All

This is my fist post so go easy on me!

I have just purchased a new 4X2X2 10mm glass aquarium with 2 X Eheim 2217 CF's & a 300W Sera heater. I will be using the setup for a couple of barramundi with a simple river sand/driftwood aquascape for effect. I am yet to get some lighting as I am recovering financially! also I have a few weeks up my sleave as I can't set anything up yet as I have to wait for my cabinet to be built...

Questions!

Will the dual Eheims cause too much current in the 4X2X2?

Is there any way of running the 2 Eheims inline so the plumping in the tank is minimal? if so how would you do this?

Any other things you would suggest for the stup?

Cheers

Aaron

Well first of a 4 foot tank is way to small for Barra will outgrow it very quickly they just grow and grow and grow especially if you are planning to have two. I had three in a 6 foot tank and eventually had to get rid of them as they just outgrew it i had 1000 lph power head in the tank for circulation and they loved the current so that shouldnt be a problem. They even loved loved getting a bubble bath every water change from the hose they would climb over each other to get in the bubbles made by the hose:) Anyway hope this helps you out....

Maybe get a bigger tank in a year? barra grow bloody quickly!

Goold luck :)

We have 5cm barra grow to 40cm in 12 months up here ( brisbane)

2 40cm barra in a 4x2x2 , er

Use both canisters , you might need a power head in a few months time as well

Cheers

You're talking about putting 2 of these

in a 4 ft tank? Wow, don't call it a setup, because that would be cruel.

Sorry if that sounded rude, but so is cruelty to animals... just trying to prevent it.

Thats all fine fine but it begs the question should any of us keep them at all?
There are very, very few people on this forum who have tanks big enough to keep Barras for a long time. Give the man a break why don't you?

why dont we keep from importing more species into fishkeeping allowing theese things to happen.....

Look dudes, Nobody goes off at Li for housing all his future 5' fish in tanks that are way too small for them...Yet if its a new member you all want to flame the hell out of him? Wtf calm down dudes.

Hi All

I should have put a disclaimer at the bottom of my post saying "is aware that will require a bigger aquarium in the future" haha! I know how quick they grow and I do know that the 4 footer is not going to cut it in a year or so. This is my first largish setup so I didn't think spending 4k on a extreme setup would be a wise decision for starters!

Back to the original post now! can anyone help me with any insight into the dual eheims?

Cheers

Aaron,

please see the pics of our pet barra here

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23702

Since these pics were taken and that intro was written Grouch has now been moved from an 8' diameter by 4' deep watertank pond to a 12' diameter by 6' deep watertank pond as she had outgrown the smaller one!!!!!!!

We have had her since she was thumbnail size and she is now around the 5' size, not bad for 12 years.

Be prepared to be buying bigger and bigger tanks on a very regular basis.

Cheers

Adrian
