I'm thinking of switching over to the dark side; a saw a similar post about this, but I'm thinking more specifically into a saltwater ray that can live happily in a tank of this footprint? Any ideas of a good size ray for this tank easily accessible in Cali?ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1372747292.274583.jpg pic of the tank in the original owners house

Possibly a Cali stingray but they still need a lot of floor space so unless you are considering having a bare tank with just sand, I wouldn't recommend getting one.

If I center some live rock to create a circle path, or only put deco in the corners will a Cali ray, yellow ray, or cortez ray be fine? I have read surface space is whys needed but not if rays are actually suited for square or round tanks

Yellow, Cortez or Round would all be good choices for that tank. Shape doesn't matter with small body rays like those, just space to swim.

Open spaces to swim along the bottom, a healthy mix of good food (clam, shrimp, silver sides, squid) and clean water with good filtration.

So the tank won't be up for about two months and during that time I'm going to seed a little over 150 lbs of dead rock with 25lbs of live rock. Hopefully all live when it's set up, ill fill the tank halfway, and begin adding water from a buddy with a healthy established system. How long before I should order my ray? Should I go the normal progression of damsel chromis etc for a few months first?
