when the light is on in the tank he hides behind driftwood and when the lights are off he swims around and when I approach the tank he does what is similar to a head dive (face down tail high on a angle) is this still a sign of shyness?

its been almost two months since i moved him to his new tank...should i keep the light on all the time to make him get use to it or leave it off to make him more comfy?? maybe i hit a miss on personalty. debating if i should get a bigger rhom....

seems normal to me, even a bigger rhom could take some time to come out. your is only 5.5" so it's normal for it to be a little skittish. spend a lot of time with it if you can and it'll get use to you.

x2

thanks guys..he's coming along... just freak's out a little in the morning before i check his tank in the morning before work....seems like he starting to grow a little more height vs length

Dimm the lights and remove hiding places.

Sounds a little mean, but worked for mine, now he doesn't hide anymore even if he gets the chance.

You practically force him to learn that he doesn't have anything to fear.

wow sounds mean..lol jks...i spent so much on rocks and driftwood if worst comes to worst ill try it out..thanks

I had a very heavily planted tank for my rhom back in the day and he wasn't shy at all.. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but he lived in a jungle :)... Later on I putted him in a bare, dark tank and it got shy for a few months, but ik got used to that as well.. Just a matter of getting comfortable, takes some time with serra's.

my 5" blue diamond does the exact same thing as yours does...it hides a lot, it does the famous "serra tilt" when I approach it, and it does not like aquarium light
