I would like some help figuring out what to plant my new 5.5 gallon planted Red Cherry shrimp tank. I kind of want it to look something like this:

View attachment 686379The blue bar in the background will be a bubble curtain if I decide it looks good.

  1. is a tall "bacground plant" that will sort f provide a backdrop to the tank
  2. small bushy plant
  3. rocks or tiny plant
  4. plant to cover the bottom
The tank will have 2.5 watts per gallon. I will dose with:

  1. Flourish: Comprehensive
  2. Flourish Excel
  3. Flourish Nitrogen
  4. Flourish Potassium
  5. Flourish Iron
What are some good plants for this.
I was thinking:

  1. Anacharis/ Elodea
  2. Moss ball?
  3. River rocks/ petrified wood or ???? (not sure about plants for this placement)
  4. Dwarf baby tears, Marsilea hirsuta?

I have a 4gal planted shrimp tank that's not fully aesthetically aqascaped yet [just growing everything out while my baby eels use the shrimp tank as temporary residence]. there's about 60 shrimp in there or so. wisteria, myrio, crypts, hornwort, purple cabomba, guppy grass, subwassertang&java moss/ferns, a few amazon cuttings of sorts, tonina fluviatilis, moss balls, &some weeds from the swamp i live in are all stuffed in there [pic just as example~]. it's a high tech nano tank until i get a smaller light, haha. depending on your light &your plant-light demands, you may not need to add too many ferts or any at all... like me XD low light plants ftw.
but i plan to make it prettier later, i can't wait to add woods&rocks too : D cuttings will go into more nano setups i'm sure.
the java ferns'll grow on rocks or wood so the ground cover and rocks/wood is up to you! i personally like baby tears&microswords but have no experience with true groundcover, or anubias, but i'd recommend them, too. but the myrio and the wisteria make great background plants and are quite prolific under high lighting.
i grow the myrio in another tank and it grew like 2 feet after a month to a total of almost 4 feet. i have a bubble curtain in my shrimp tank for no real reason aside from the eels& i think it's pretty XD and i recommend mossballs! i just love them. got 24 the other day, and have been making wabi-kusa and simple shrimp tanks since XD so far your design looks lovely, hope to see the final product when its done! &hope my random suggestions/plant comments helped a bit :> tank in progress.jpg

its a nice tank
I want to limit my species a bit. I have some Wysteria I can clip for the back and Elodea. I'm thinking about buying some Java moss to use as ground cover since dwarf baby tears are so hecktic to get going. I'll put Crypt Parva for the number 2's (i have three plants of those) and some floating Horn wort as well as some moss balls. I'll send pics when I'm done with it.
