5"clown loach go with with 1 1/2" loaches ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh yea-they'll all be glad for the company. Loaches love to be in groups, they don't care how big or small. The bigger one will probably naturally be the leader but he'll do it without aggression.

I'd venture to say she didn't know what she was talking about and had never kept Loaches before lol
Edit: I've got 8" Clown Loaches alonside my 2" Clown Loaches and all is good. Not a single problem. I did, however, have problems when I had less than 5 Clown Loaches together of the same size. Then they're always bickering for status but no real harm was ever done.

Absolutely! I have 2 5" Clowns in a 60 with 8 Rosy Barbs. 3 weeks ago I added 3 1" Clowns and all is well. Only thing I have worried about is making sure the little guys get fed. Rosy's swarm the top along with the 2 big guys and then the big guys (and surprisingly the Rosy's) work the bottom pretty good. After about wk. 2 the babies realized they could swim to the top too. Also, I have started to include blanched cucumber in the tank and that assures me that they are getting enought to eat.

My advice is to QUARANTINE the new Clowns. I added 2 babies to the tank 3 months ago, they developed Ich, and I ended up losing the 2 babies AND 3, established, totally healthy 4 1/2" Clowns that had never had Ich before. The quarantine is especially important because clowns are all wild caught.

quarantine ftw! keep in mind, clowns are (as stated above) wild caught... so if you consider the trip they take from their nice little stream to your fish tank.... the catch, the bucket, the box, the plane/boat, the mail, the lfs, the community usually ill cared for tank - all the while being crammed into a space w/ too many other fish, while being under-fed with not so good water conditions... lots of clowns dont survive the first week in the lfs... those that do have come in contact with some perfect-for-creating-disease conditions, IMO...

This new clown actually came from a good owner who was concerned it was about to outgrow his tank. The owner sold it to the pet store where I bought it.
