I'm planning to set up a 5 x2 x2 150 gallon tank. Stocking would be brasiliensis pair, severum and oscar with dithers. Currently i have 2x eheim 2217. I'm thinking of purchasing another classic 2217. Do you think 3x of such filter would be enough?

If not, which filter would you suggest? TIA!

I always like running canisters and hob's together on a tank. To me you get the best water movement in the tank. I would say forget the classic and get two aquaclear 110s instead.

I agree with this. Think the money for another 2217 would be better spent on 2 AC110's. They'll add a bit more flow and are easier to clean than canisters. I've had AC110'S that were well over 10 years old still running strong. I actually JUST set up a new 5'x2'x2' yesterday. I chose to go with a sump over my Eheim 2262 and AC110 combo I was running on my 120 gallon.

I agree with the HOB and canister combo but I would recommend a sump filter as well. I run a sump and canister on my 125

Sump all the way you won't regret it

For sure. I've always run canisters and hob's and was a bit nervous to switch to a sump. Three days into having it set up and I'm kicking myself for taking this long to make the switch. So much cleaner looking without tubes or heaters in the tank. Also added water volume. Which was big for me. I wanted bigger than 5' but have limited space.

Hi everyone thank you for your responses. I like the idea of AC110 unfortunately though, the used tank that I am getting has high strips. I'm afraid the filter might not fit nicely. I'm thinking of improving water flow instead. I still have tons of research to do before making the leap of faith into sumps.

+1 for the AC110/canister combo. You'll really appreciate the fact that not only do the aquaclears filter nicely, they also break the water and oxygenate it as well. It's like having 2 more big airstones.

What do you mean by high strips? I have two 110s on my 180 with no issues at all

So my 150 gallon tank is under construction. However i just learned that the braces are 2.5" wide, don't think my eheim 2217 inflow would fit. How should i remedy this? Thanks
