Hey all, I just wanted to show off my newest addition to the family... the proper cray tank. Mommy jumped out and died a little while back, leaving her 35 babies, and I've decided rather than sell/feed them off like the orig plan, I'm going to go bigger and keep multiple adults and have the baby factories going all the time. Marbled crayfish (self-cloning) Project: Done.

The tank is 60" long, 12" tall and wide. I'm on a budget, so the gallonage had to be half-ish. With the gravel, rocks (planning for more), and the 5g rimless tank in there, I got my halfsies at 23.5g.

The 5g is half full as well, weighed down with rocks, glass bottles, and gravel. It's holding the 10g filter up keeping it dry on the inside, and low to the 40g's waterline on the outside to reduce waterfall noise. I'll be getting a second filter for the other side, possibly a 20g if I can. Don't want too strong a flow, babies at play. Planning to put a betta in the 5g, will waterchange it using the 40g's water.

Put a 5' mirror pane I found in the garage behind the tank, makes it look even bigger than it already does. Pothos ivy carefully strung up to add nitrate removal, awesome visual, and will be carefully monitored to make sure crays can't use it to climb out.

Yellow light on one side and purple shine-through on the other makes for cool visual, planning to get a third small light (white or light blue) for the middle, right over the betta tank.

4'x2'x13" Weather Loach Community - Weather Loches, Kuhli Loaches, Starry Night Eels, Cherry barbs, Guppies, Ottocats, Flying Fox, gup Fry nets
4'x18"x15" Predator Community - Rope Fish, Sen Bichir, Bushy nose Plecos
2.5'x12"x12" Siren Tank - Lesser Siren, occassionally guppies
10g Frog Community - Dwarf Aquatic Frogs, Blue Delta Guppies, Banjo Catfish, Cherry Shrimp, Amano Shrimp

and now...

5'x12"x12" Crayfish Tank - Marbled Crayfish (and soon to be guppy fry)

Anyone like?

Nice tanks! I want to see more pothos ;)

I've fiddled around with the cloning crayfish idea but I have yet to set it all up, my job, f1 and my current fish and gf are keeping me far to busy, I have about 500$ set aside for a new tank, but I don't want to over complicate my life atm. 1 beardy, 1 res, 5 rbp, 1 black Piranha, 1 ball python and a siamese cat keep me very busy!

Thanks for the inspiration bud!

More Pothos will be had, F1! It's a great idea, I can't wait to see results in action, will post^^ Also I hope you get to set up with the crays, they're so awesome! And the babies are just adorable, I had a staring contest with one this morning. AWW. Just got two more weather loaches for my loach community under the excuse that the pothos will hep with nitrates. (technically I'm probably over-stocked, but with all my fish being tiny or snakey, it's really hard to get a clear idea O_o... tank looks dead 80% of the time because everyone hides!)

Karaig, believe me it's all luck, or serious dedication. Actually just luck. I got all but two of my tanks off kijiji, and the 4x2x13"/5x1x1 one from PNA. This is in Toronto mind you. Took me almost a year to finally get that one above, I wanted as wide and long as possible in the 4' range, and really it was sheer random chance that a guy was selling them and he contacted me through my "goddamnit someone give me a tank like this!" ad. He had two, I was so tempted to take the other just to store it away for later... can't remember why I didn't. The 5x1x1 was being sold off from a fish room, they actually midlabled the 8x1x1 ones they had as 5x1x1, and when I inquired about them they found that they did actually have one as originally advertised, so I took it with glee^^

Out of all the tanks I've bought, only one was new (my first one). Never had a problem, always a fraction of the cost, and always works out because I have weird fishies XD

O_o Friends in high school would call me crazy cat lady just based off my name (no cats), but now everyone knows me as the crazy fish chick, and they usually don't even know how odd my collection is XD *dances with aquatic salamander*

I'm jelly of you Karaig, you've got sirens up in floridaland... and wonderful temperatures.
