Alright so my fellow monster fish keepers lets sit down and have a story time! once upon a time i had this beautiful 12 gallon nanocube set up with 2 beautiful healthy blackfish so i decided to put in live grass shrimp because it is one of their favorite treats. So after work today i collected a lot and plopped them in my tank. after having an amazing day i come to check on the tank a few shrimp decided it would be a fantatstic idea to get stuck in the filter stop the flow of water and kill everything but my baby blue claw crab.....my plan of action do a 50% water change tomorrow and let it run for about 5 days before adding fish.... i have like 4 more baby black fish at work so that shouldn't be a problem....frustrating though....so frustrating...

i had the same problem, is't just that it was in my betta tank, so the betta didn't die. if you want some shrimp that won't plug the filter, try some amano shrimp or bamboo shrimp. that really sucks...

Any of the smaller shrimp could get sucked into the filter. Amanos are indeed one of the smaller "dwarf" shrimp. Perhaps a bamboo shrimp (one of the largest available) would work out a little better for you.

I keep cherry shrimp and dwarf cajun cray's, all filtration has a fine pore sponge over the intake. This seems to work pretty well for me.

im sorry i'm confused but how did that lead to your fish dieing?

the shrimp that jumped the barrier that separates the water from the filter system was caught in the system ultimately stopping the flow of water causing a huge ammonia spike. the tank is back up though now with killies a blue claw and a spider crab :D
