U.K
Had a 5 hour power cut 2 nights ago. Started a 10.30 pm and went on until 3.00 am.
Absolute nightmare made worse by the fact it was night time and I had to do things by candle and torch.
I had a battery back up which should have given me 4 hours run time on 600w inverter so waited 2 hours into the power cut before trying it as I have 2 big tanks with total 9 adult rays, 2 aro, 2 gar 2 pups plus multiple other fish and another 4x2 tank with Geos etc which I just had to leave be as it was too fa away from the battery and inverter.
Anyway, when I went to use the battery back up I found out it was dead due to my own stupid fault as I had allowed it to go flat!
Another 3 hours of moving the water around with mu hand in all 3 tank every 10 minutes and to my relief all was good when the power came back on.
24 hours later and all fish look great. No food last night and added some Pure Pond which I use from time to time to boost biological filtration and things look great.
Now to charge that battery and buy another!!
First power cut in 4 years and hope its the last!

Good job keeping your fish alive. Hope it’ll be the last power outage for you!

Thanks all for the kind words, regards a generator, yes I have thought about it in the past but decided against it as its a big lump of kit to store versus how often I may actually need it.

I have just ordered some battery powered air pumps, as a backup, as had some electricians doing some work in my house and the power was off for a few hours. May order a couple more, if the one I ordered is a good one.

Relatively cheap and can always run to the shop for batteries, as a worst case.

Good to hear it ended well mate!

I'm keen to hear what you replace it with as been thinking about prepping for this lately!

Not in the middle of the night you can't, not in the U.K anyway
