Here's the results.
I had a 5" Jardini in a 46 gallon bowfront for about 4 weeks with a ghost knife and pleco. The Jardini claimed the tank as it's own I guess. Today I saw a great deal on a Silver Arowana with 5 rows of scales, 10", great shape (though missing barbels that I read will grow back) for $35 flat. I picked him up, took him home, and figured he was a monster compared to the Jardini (3x his size!).
Boy oh boy. That's when the first 3 hours of rage began. I've never seen aggression from the Jardini until today. Imagine a 5" Jardini vs. 10" Silver! The Jardini first followed the Silver wherever it went. Then, it fit it's whole mouth onto the tail of the Silver to chomp it. Then, the craziest move was the body whip. When the Silver got near the glass, the Jardini charged it, and made a fast U-turn that caused it to whip the Silver against the glass. He didn't do this in the middle of the tank--- only at the glass so the Silver hit the glass. When the Jardini started attack the right fin of the Silver, I threw in the towel and said that's it. Fight's over, done deal. This guy cannot live with the silver at this point in time!
A couple of questions. Can I put the Jardini back in with the silver if the Silver claims the tank as his own this time (bring back the Jardini after a month or so)? Would adding another silver arowana ease the aggression of the Jardini? I would love to have one tank, and eventually move to a 200-300 gallon with 3 arowanas, though that might be overkill =/
