Here's the results.

I had a 5" Jardini in a 46 gallon bowfront for about 4 weeks with a ghost knife and pleco. The Jardini claimed the tank as it's own I guess. Today I saw a great deal on a Silver Arowana with 5 rows of scales, 10", great shape (though missing barbels that I read will grow back) for $35 flat. I picked him up, took him home, and figured he was a monster compared to the Jardini (3x his size!).

Boy oh boy. That's when the first 3 hours of rage began. I've never seen aggression from the Jardini until today. Imagine a 5" Jardini vs. 10" Silver! The Jardini first followed the Silver wherever it went. Then, it fit it's whole mouth onto the tail of the Silver to chomp it. Then, the craziest move was the body whip. When the Silver got near the glass, the Jardini charged it, and made a fast U-turn that caused it to whip the Silver against the glass. He didn't do this in the middle of the tank--- only at the glass so the Silver hit the glass. When the Jardini started attack the right fin of the Silver, I threw in the towel and said that's it. Fight's over, done deal. This guy cannot live with the silver at this point in time!

A couple of questions. Can I put the Jardini back in with the silver if the Silver claims the tank as his own this time (bring back the Jardini after a month or so)? Would adding another silver arowana ease the aggression of the Jardini? I would love to have one tank, and eventually move to a 200-300 gallon with 3 arowanas, though that might be overkill =/

90% of the time it's a bad idea. I had a jardini at 7" and a 10" green together, both nasty and mean, and the green only ended up with some split finnage that grew back the next 2 days. I was just seeing if it worked, but no bueno. They both only had split fins nothing major after 8 hours.

judging by how you described the temperment of your jardi, i'd say its too aggro. it can be done (i've had my jardi and silver together for years) but my jardi is pretty laid back compared to most.

I wouldn't try it esp after seeing that behavior. My past jar specifically hated my silver while he tolerated the other tankmates at the time.

Thanks for the tips. The guy at the most respected LFS told me to get a bigger silver and it'd depend on the Jardini. I guess I got one of the mean ones.

Anyone know about the idea of reintroducing him to the silvers tank in about a month when he's in a less dominant position?

No I don't think it's a good idea to reintroduce the jar the jardini will only get more aggressive as it grows.
