since my 10g is going to be vacant, i am thinking about going and picking up a lima tomorrow. what do you think would be the best size to fit in my tank? the store has 5"ers and 10"ers. fish are in sig

im confused, a lima can not be housed in a 10 gal for life under no circumstances. But if you mean you are going to keep it in there for a bit untill a larger tank is ready than i think you should get a 5 incher. But even better, set up the larger tank asap and them buy the 10 incher. But explain a bit what is going on.

im sorry, def shouldve explained it a little better. it would only go into the 10g for a couple weeks for quarantine just to make sure its fine before putting it into my 125 in the sig. i want to know if a 5" lima would be okay w/ what i have now because the ornate just ate a 3-4" senegal bichir, so i thought i might need a 10" so it didnt have any problems.

Don't see a problem for getting an 10"er lima for the 125 now.

I see your dilemma. And its a tough call, a 10" fish would be really uncomfortable in 10g even if its for a couple of weeks, but you don't want to bother quarantining a 5" snack... If you're really worried about it getting eaten go with the 10, but personally, I'd get the five and power feed it while in quarantine to try to get some bulk on it.

i just had a bad experience w/ quarantining a fish for only a week, but it was from petsmart...

i actually got a 20long (20x12.5x13 LWH) last night and set it up w/ the filter from the 10g (since the 10 will be made into a sump for my mom's 55g) and the water from it (am getting a bigger filter for it today). the place i'm getting it from is actually a vendor on here (mike's killer fish), so there shouldnt be any prob's, but i would feel more safe in quar for a little while, esp when one of the fish in the 125 had ich about 4 days ago. i did take it out and none of the others have gotten any, so i'm probably in the clear.

i think a 10"er would be okay in a 20 for a couple weeks. maybe, ill just wait a few days to get the fish to make sure none of them get ich and then just put it in the 125. right now, i'm leaning toward the suggestion of powerfeeding a 5"er till its like 7 or 8". i'd rather spend less money and see one grow from a pretty small size then get one thats already half-grown. that way, i would be sure it eats well, anyway.

I rarely Q my fish too...I'd go with the 10 incher and drop it in the 125...The 5 incher is too riskey being you've already had a 3-4 inch bichir get eaten already...
