So I'm at the lfs looking at getting an ATF. If you could choose between a 5" gatf for $150 and a 8.5" inch one for $250, which would you choose? The bigger one is on pellets I guess.

IF it is indeed on pellets, the bigger one is a cool deal from what I've gathered. Sounds like they're not the easiest to wean to pellets. But personally, if it's not on pellets I myself prefer to get my fish small and grow them out myself. Really just a matter of personal preference more than anything else here. Is starting out with a larger fish worth the $100 to you? Or if it is indeed on pellets, is it worth the extra $100 to you? That's all that matters...what's it worth to YOU?

Make the lfs feed it pellets infront of you. Iv learned never to believe what the lfs people tell me lol personally id go with the smaller one and save some $$. Plus you'll have him for a longer period of time.

Like the other guys said its just a matter of what you want, not like one is a rip off compared to the other. But I completely agree with slippery k that if you see it eat pellets, then its pellet trained, otherwise I wouldnt take it for granted regardless of what the lfs says

Everybody before me has made some very good points about the two fish. When you texted me, you didn't mention the big one was on pellets! If that's the case, it might be worth it to get him after all. Make the store prove it though!

Thanks for the advise guys, I just decided to go with the smaller one. I made a new thread with pictures which can be found here

The store clerk told me that the bigger one will eat pellets but not while anyone is watching, lol..
I was tempted to get the larger one because it would be more hardy, but hopefully clean water is enough to help this little guy get big.

I am going to try and get it pellet trained, I would much much prefer that and it would be a way healthier fish that way.
