I have a 5" Oscar and a 6" Walking Catfish in a 38 gallon. Im planning on moving into a bigger tank once my oscar gets a little bit bigger. I was wondering if there are any other tankmates for these two agressive eaters?

Thanks :D

:welcome: to MFK, Oscar.

I would not suggest getting any more fish. Stick to what you have and try to move both of your fish to a larger tank as quickly as possible. If you cannot rehome them anytime soon, then your other choice is to rehome them to someone who can accommodate them properly.

I agree.. your Oscar will need a 55 min (imo thats still to small).. though ideally a 75 or 125 would be best. I'm not sure how large walking cats get so you may be looking at something bigger, or not. a RTC or Channel cat is just a bad idea. There are alot of tank mates suitable for Oscars but I would not suggest getting any until you've gotten a larger tank/know what size your getting.

you'll want at least a 125 for the two of them alone, ideally bigger. If you want tank mates I'd try another large robust cichlid such as a midas.

That tank is already overcrowded. However, they'll be some room as soon as the clarius kills the O one night. Then, the tank will be too small for the clarius.

BTW, I wouldn't advertise having the clarius too much. Possession of these cats is federally banned in the US.

Not all clarias become aggressive. I've kept an 18" in a community with large barbs and cichlids. I find they are the most aggressive with bottom dwellers to be honest, but each cat is different

Sure...
once you get a bigger tank of around 150-220 you could keep these guys..
- Tinfoil barbs
- S. Arowana or Jardini
- Datnoids
- TSN and lima
- Bichirs
- Lungfish
-Larger Central and S. American cichlids such as red devils, geophagus, severum,etc..
- Md to larger sized catfish....... such as irwini catfish, four lined pictus, etc..
But for now you will need to upgrade to a WAY larger tank.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This is what I'd be more worried about...
