Hello!

I recently acquired another 50 gal aquarium (length is 48", I believe) and am wondering what kind of stock I can roll with to complement my young Firemouth (~1.5") and Striped Raphael catfish (2.5-3" long). I am open to any and all ideas. Basically anything that will work peacefully and maybe even offer the potential for breeding. Looking forward to reading your ideas. Thanks!

Well firemouths are quite gregarious so you should a get a few more. Same as to the rapheal; get atleast 4 more firemouths and 2 or 3 more Raphael's.

And also, a group would form a natural breeding pair as the grow and you go separate those and try and breed those! I think that would be a good stock, maybe some dither fish.

Agreed. For some dithers I would recommend either giant danio's or Congo tetras. They both get 3-4in and are fast swimmers while also being good looking. Maybe a school of 6-8. I wouldn't trust anything smaller tho as the firemouths may predate them then once they get big enough.

So 5 Firemouths + 6-8 Congo Tetras sounds cool. I've had my eyes on Congo and Serpae Tetras as dithers for my 55 gal. Open to other suggestions! Thanks guys!

I wouldn't recommend adding serpae tetras with em, they're just a bit too small. Could be possible with some black skirt tetras tho.

My LFS doesn't currently have any Congo Tetras but does have Diamond Tetras which seem to grow bigger (6-10 cm) than the other Tetras (2.6-5cm). Would those work with the Firemouths or are they too small too?

I think they would be a bit too small but I've seen stranger combos.
