50 gallon tall glass tank hanging over edge

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Needs to be supported. I wouldn't hang it over the edge like that as I have tried it before with a 30 gallon and it started to leak 4 months later. Better to be safe then have a leak and dead fish

Hello; In addition to the previous post another consideration could be that the center of gravity might be changed. May not make a difference in a setup balance, but another reason not to have a tank edge outside the footprint of a stand.

If you have a pressing need to use this stand and tank combo, consider this. Cut a piece of 3/4 inch thick plywood to match the bottom dimensions of the tank. Center the plywood on the stand and you should have a 3/8 inch overhang on the front and the back. This is still not ideal and could allow some potential stress to the tank and maybe a leak. It would reduce the out of balance to more of a degree, but i still do not like to have a tank foootprint outside the stand footprint.

I would not use this stand with the tank described. Have i done such things and gotten away with it? Yes; but not always.

Good luck

Skjl47....couldn't have said it better.
I would add, as mentioned before, the overhang may change the center of balance...I would do the plywood and place the overhang in the back.

I have done the centering of a piece of wood with a 30 gallon on a slightly smaller stand for a year or so with no issues bit your dealing with a bit more weight in your situation. ...
Always better to over support than to have an accident. ..
