Hey Everybody,

I'm ready for arguements and flames but I kinda have legit back up. I emailed 4 breeders of discus numerous times (Gabriel Posada from "wattleydiscus.com", macsdiscus.com, sunrisetropicals.com and discus madness.) I emailed other site's but no replies. They all suggested the following:

6x Discus
?x Cory Cats "(Sterbai, thanks reptileguy)
?x Rummy Nose (Darker the redness in the nose = Good water)
?x Pleco (Eighter small ones or any size bush nose)

They said that a corner tank utilizes length and height which makes great display tanks for discus. I'm thinking about going with the company macsdiscus.com because he is very informative and seems to not mind the numerous questions I ask him.

Also this is the type of fish I should go with:

"Blue background are never really good to display colors, especially blues, so you need to stay with Reds, from Red Melons to Leopards to Maze Pigeons or Red Dragons, stay away from blues.
Discus reach adulthood in one year, they'll grow up to 6 inches provided that you feed them well and give them plenty of good clean water.
Regards"
Mathias Scaglia

This exact quote from an email about me asking what kinds of discus would look nice with a blue background and he said they dont care about colors of discus so any color of discus can school.

Thanks A Million...what are your opinions?

as long as you're willing to do the ridiculous WCs that go along with discus keeping i dont see a huge problem, i'd probably put in about 10 cories 1 BN pleco and completely skip on the rummys (just me)

Cool...he also said I can get away with 25% water change every week...also an fx5 will be running.

ive never heard of that few WCs for discus

What size discus are you buying? If you are buying adults...ok 25% once a week...some people would say that is ok. If you are buying juvies there is no way you are going to grow them well with once a week water changes. Even my adults do better with twice a week water changes. By better I mean have better appetites and are more active.

6 adult discus in a 50 corner I personally think is pretty full. I would do the cories and the pleco and skip the rummies as well.

The thing is if you ask this question you are gonna get a bazillion different answers.
The one thing I know for sure...buy the biggest discus you can afford. If that means getting fewer than I would only get 5, but not less than 5.

Yeah I'm going with 5 2 1/2 inch discus...and probably gonna do 50% wc weekly or 25% twice a week...water changes are easy for fresh compared to my marine tank.

Also any advice on these guys? I'm not a noob on fish keeping...i've had fish for the past 7-8 years.

I would go with the 25% twice a week. You will optimize their growth. Personally, if you are gonna do twice a week, I would do 50%.

Don't feed anything overly messy like beefheart. Stick with flake, bloodworms, etc.

Yes, definitely. I would buy all at once from same person.

By far I find discus to be the pickiest fish ever. For juvies keep your temp at least 84.

If they act funny...change the water. If they look stressed, change the water. If they won't eat, change the water...LOL They LOVE nice clean fresh water! Put salt 1 tbsp per 10 gallons for several days after you get them. Calming and supports slime coat as well as gill function.

Any specific salt? Or can I use the salt I use for my marine fish tank?..and yes water change is cure for everything!
