50 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe on a temporary basis, a small school of giant Danios. If things go well, it won't be long until your baby Oscars are six inches long. The 50 gal. tank is going to start looking kind of small.

I have a 50 gallon tank with two juvenile Oscars and I’m planning to get some tankmates any recommendations?

Welcome aboard
A 50 gallon is really not large enough for 1 juvenile Oscar. Suggest to rehome 1 Oscar or upgrade aquarium asap to a 180 gallon or l larger.
Oscar with proper care will get large .
Oscar's are very prone to HITH Hole in the head disease if nitrates aren't maintained at the lowest level consistently.
Oscar's are very messy eaters and bioload will be a task to handle but with proper maintenance ,water changes and filtration care will be easy.
That is just a few things I can think of at the moment.
No tankmates

Oscars grow massive for an aquarium fish. My advice is to rehome the Oscars and replace with smaller cichlids, such as Bolivian Rams, German Blue Rams, maybe even a small group of Firemouths.

Only advice I have is to rehome Oscars and get smaller specie of Cichlid. Please do thourough research first.

I like this advice and suggestion for those species . Bolivian Rams would be the hardiest ime. You could add a group of Corydora and a group of Tetra.
