so i have been doing 50% water changes on my 10 gallon grow out tank that houses four 2inch mono peacock bass. is this too much?

I would bring it down to maybe 25% water changes maybe? Just get a really strong filter to keep up. When I had my Oscar in his 15 gallon growout I had two filters running both over 20 gallons each. Tank was crystal clear every day!

You can do 100% water changes and still be fine if the water chemistry from your tap is the same as the water in the tank. If I could, I would do 100% water changes daily on my fish tanks.

its not a pain because its only a 10 gallon so all i do is fill up a 5 gallon bucket

I would worry about chlorines and such coming out of the water supply causing problems but if you can figure a way around it I don't see why not.

I do 100% a few times a week on my 180g but I refill using a carbon bottle.
