I have a 125 gallen tank with a 7-8inch Rec. and a few other fish. I am planning on rehoming all but the Rec. and upgrading to a 500gal. tank the 2 layout I'm currently looking at are 96x49 1/2 x 24 1/2 or a 130 x 31 1/2 x 30 1/2. I am planning on getting 2 Motoro and an arowana, and I would also like to get 2 BD once I save up for them, just cant afford the fish tank and 3-6000 in fish at the same time. Planning on a sump for Filtation. I Have always used canaster filters and am very new to sumps. I would appreciate any suggestion or coment on which layout would be best long turm as I am not planning on upgrading again after this. Where I live you cant sale large aquaims for much more than $1 gallon. Also what size sump would you recomend, I need it to fit under the tank. Thanks

if your planning on keeping rays i'd recommend the first tank with the wider foot print.
as for the sump u can use anything really long as it doesn't bow/leak. a cheap alternative
is to use rubber totes as sumps just make a simple frame around it for insurance so
it doesnt bow. totes are cheap only around 10-20 bucks for a large one.

Check my build thread, my sump set up is very basic and easy to maintain. I think it's an excellent choice for a first sump.
