5000g reef planing

i might be moving and the house is perfect for a huge tank it has a daylight bacement with a huge storage room and concrete floors i would love to build a tank 18'x8'x5' cinder block body with a 1" thick acrylic window that would be around 5000 gallons i would love a reef any tips

Predator reef. would be awesome, eels, lionfish, or sharks, combine with lps corals and mayb some softies. you have lots of options!!!
 
as for stocking i'm thinking a bunch of tangs like close to 100 a few rays a few eels and for coral a mixed reef
 
this is how the lighting will be the circles are 1000w metal halides and the rectangles are 8' long t12 blue work lights

That would be awesome! do it if you have the cash to do so. I love the plan. and a 5k mixed reef would be amazing. to bad I cant afford the thousands in electric bills and salt a month or id be right along with ya
 
On a tank that size I would use DIY LED supplement lighting, there are a few guys on reefcentral that have sunlight reefs that you can get info from. The articles section here has a great write up on building block tanks. IF you search Bil Wann's reefzilla you will find a guy who did something similar on a 14000 gallon scale.

There are ways to minimize costs like using ozone to recycle waste water and using Led's.
 
I can not wait to see the build once you actually get started.
