Ok,
in the tank are 18 medium to lareg clown loaches, never seen him go for them or antyhing.
thsi morning, i saw him wtih soemthing in its mouth, similar to when i feed it a big prawn - taking a break to swallow it. i could nto see but the only think i can think of is a clown loach as nothing else was missing.

I was planning to move my clown loaches to another tank to be with a chilli or vip red one day.
should i put only the biggest clown loaches in there and mediums grow them bigger?
anyone here kept clonw loaches succesfully with aros no problemsw?
also, the aro wasnt even hungry, fed well the night before.!

could well have eaten it. I have 6 CLs with my RTG. It chases them a little bit, but it's never serious. The CLs have become very brave around the RTG though, they often swim all over it and i worry about them. More specifically i worry about the barbs on their heads and them getting stuck in the RTGs throat, or worse.
I don't know what to recommend because i'd be hypocritical to say you must move them. They grow really slow though.

the RTG never chases them. also the Cls swim around my rtg too.
but today, there is nothign else int eh tank that could be in its mouth!
so i was like...uh oh, is that a clown!
maybe once it has had a taste it will keep eating it - id ont want that lol
i will mvoe them anyways, but - of course, there is no way an arowana will be abel to even eat a big 3 to 4 inch clown.
when i get my red, i WANTED to put the clowns with it, but now im weary of that.

Usually arowanas don't bother with loaches, since loaches stick to middle and bottom. Loaches are also extremely agile and they can easily out maneuver a larger fish. The only way a arowana could catch a loach would be if it were weakened. During the night loaches find places to sleep so that rules out a night hunt. Also loaches have their face spikes which can dish out some pretty seriously damage to a fish trying to swallow it. Could the clown loach have been hurt or sick? I doubt a healthy loach would just let something swallow it without deploying a spike into the throat.

i have about 20 clown loaches with my Arow and havent had a problem yet... As I see it the loaches are a little too daring for their own good but they are also very fast swimmers. Just make sure you have enough hiding places for the loaches to hide. I personally love my clowns so I would move them to another tank if I had the oppertunity too as I wouldn't want to loose anymore loaches.

soemtimes arowanas have good luck and can get a fish even fi its fast
i think its what happeend here.
the loaches were all healthy when i fed before lights out.
next morning, i saw the arowana had soemthing in its mouth.

i hpe it has swallowed it with no problem!
the arowana is my most prized fish!

but i will mvoe teh loaches anyway as i want to expand the school
but... i wnt to ensure that if i get a red...

SHOULD I or SHOUL I NOT put the red with the loaches:/

is a black arowana less liekly to go for clowns?

I think a black would be fine with loaches if they can't fit in it's mouth. Black arowanas are pretty gentle and the only time you'd really have predation is if they were small fish.

my big silver doesn't bother with any of my CLs. sometimes I see him 'exercising' his jaw and it looks like he may have just eaten something, but hasn't. hopefully this is the case.
