ill soon have my 50 gallon tank freed up (36x18x18) and was thinking of throwing together a litlle group of CA's. possibly some cryptoheros species and a meeki or different variation of thorichthys with a nice sandy bottom for them to sift. i would love some suggestions because i have a lot to learn in terms of keeping these genuses and would love a bit of guidance as to what they might need. feel free to post some photos if you get specific with a species id love to see em. thanks

Geo species with sand is eye-catching.

I keep a solo male convict in a 29g in my upstairs office. I love the personality of these guys even if they are common. He will most likely get moved to the big tank (210g) when the fish in it are big enough to hold their own against this little monster. I really like the Honduran Red Points and Thorichthys pasionis which might be interesting ideas fish for your little project.

good old cons, always got something for everyone! researched both pasiones and HRP a little and im really liking them both. what sort of numbers am i looking at in the 50g? i also think a couple of swordtails might look alright with the whole theme

yes swordtails would be a good target fish also,as they pair up they will need distractions.sajicas,cutteri,panamensis.some HRP have marbled pattern for variety.i would try 5-7 of one species.the pair that forms might tolerate 2 more? with good hiding spots.OR try to get 3 males,or 5 females

i also like cutteri a lot but i hear theyre aggressive. is that true? The LFS i go to has just recently gotten a whole heap of sajica's, cutteri etc which is what sparked this idea. would a firemouth fit in with a group of cryptos or is it not a good idea? i just love those little guys

i have only kept hrp, convicts, sajicas.cons were the most aggressive.maybe research the cutteri more, but i would think a pair, with 1 firemouth would be worth a try.or just 5 firemouths

haha alright thanks mate. ive got plenty of time to look into it so im sure ill get it sorted. cheers for suggestions

Yes! sals are awesome fish! haha im gonna need a few more tanks :P salvini pair would dominate a 50gal yeah? if they were aggro in that setup i could always move them to the 150 i suppose. can you give me a rundown on salvini requirements/growth rate/sexes? anything would be great thanks
