540 gallon tank build

my plans for a 6 foot long x 4 foot high x by 3 feet deep, with a 4ft wide x3ft tall glass panel, it should be aproxamately 538 gallons, what thickness glass and plywood should i use

or if i use acrylic how thick for that?

3/4" ply but your WILL need good exterior bracing for a 4' high tank. Best reference says that 36" high tank should have 3/4" glass for a 3.08 safety factor. Sorry cant find anything on 4' height because your glass needs to be able to withstand the total depth of the tank not just the window height.

Is that always true ?

I would have thought the important dimension would be from the surface of the water to the bottom of the window , regardless of tank depth.
