Hello All!

I've decided to come out of the lounge and make some fish related posts.

I'll soon be making a thread covering everything in more detail, but basically my first question involves filtration.

On my 55 gallon, I was given a Fluval 204, and have found out it was not big enough to handle the tank, even though for more than 2 years my tank stayed crystal clear. I'm going to get a new HOB filter to help supplement the 204 and was thinking that an AC 50 would do the trick. I won't have any big waste producers in the tank, so I feel like these two would get the job done, but I've never had an AC and want to know what you guys think. A big thing for me is if it is really noisy. The tank is in my room and I can deal with the canister, but I'm worried the HOB filter will be way to loud.

So really I guess to dumb down my question, Whats your opinion of the AC 50 and can it be noisy?

THANKS:Pikachu:

I have an acrylic tank and with the 204 theres only enough room for a AC 50.

I feel like a AC 110 would be a little over the top with the 204 anyways.....

But thanks for the response! I hope I can handle the noise!

My lady has an acrylic 55 gallon and she can fit an Ac 110 on it with her Rena Xp3 canister filter. The trick is to use the holes on the sides for the intake and outtake. Do you have those holes?

I have 2 55 gallons(glass). On one of them I have an Aquaclear 110 and I replaced the carbon spot for another foam 110 insert and different bio media from my Lfs, a Marineland Biowheel 350 with Ac70 foam media inserts instead of the carbon slide in media they normally use and I also have a medium sponge filter running in there. That tank is crystal clear.

The 2nd 55 has a Fluval406 maxed out with bio media, an Ac70(again with an extra foam insert replacing carbon), and a little Topfin 20 with an Ac70 foam insert stuffed into it. Crystal clear.

You cannot instal an AC in those holes youre talking about.

Duh, but you can install the intake and outtake of a canister in those circular holes freeing up space in the middle slots to put the Ac110. If not an Ac110 an Ac70 on each middle slot would fit for sure.

If he has the same tank I'm thinking of it could work.

Soooo the top brace has a circular hole on each back corner on the top (where canister's intake on one end would go and on the other the out), then in between it has two long slots where hobs are meant to go.

I'm not talking about the main two holes where you would put big decor in or where you would stick your arm in for maintenance. If you can't grasp that I'll find a picture and doodle on it with paintshop. (Wow, that sounds pretty rude but it isn't intended that way.)

Nope other than the two main holes for placing the decor, my tank has one tiny circular hole that could fit only a cord for a heater, and a bigger slot for the HOB filter or intake and outtake tubes for a canister.
