using a barrel to build k1 filter for 600gal system, will be k1. Set up same as joeys in escence.

I bought a used barrel but it stinks and can't be used, the only new ones I can find at a reasonable price are these, but the top is curved and narrower. Would a uni seal still work on it. As the straight bit lower down would make the water height too low?

Or alternatively what about garden water butt? Would they be any good for this?

Craigslist. Just make sure you ask what was in it before-hand. The ones I bought have flat spots for installing bulkheads and were used previously to transport salt.

Thank but here in UK they don't appear to be as common. There's only a handful online, one of which I bought and is no good. which is why I'm left really with these options.

The same advice applies in UK I suppose... try to find used-vendors.

Can anyone answer my above question as to whether the two I posted would be suitable?

I'm.not happy to use the stinky one as is very strong, can't work out what it was from either. sell told me was fruit but I'm not so sure

Dumb question, did you try bleaching it?

Sure. They will work.

Try looking for barrels at your water treatment plant. That is where I get mine. You should be able to find fish safe ones there.

Cheers all,

but I just threw away the old one and bought a brand new blue one like above. Didn't think it was worth the risk to £2000 of fish by using an old smelly one!
