Ok I have been contemplating about getting some more fish for my 55 gal tank. Right now I have 4 pictus catfish were the smallest is about 2.5 inches and the biggest almost 5. I have a firemouth that is maybe 3 inches. I was wondering what everyone else thinks I should get. I am running a FX5 on the 55.. overkill but I had it so why not use it. So the fish need to with stand a good current. open to all suggestions.

Let's start with what sort of fish do you like? I'm guessing from the stocking you want more mid to high level swimming fish? So school of fish or individual personality fish? For a school, i'd look at a few torpedo or filament barbs as they provide plenty of movement but don't grow more than 6" max (i think.) Individuals, then look up more small Cichlids.

yea I want something that might stay a little more towards the top since the catfish and fire mouth stay at the bottom. I was thinking of a school of giant danios, but was also thinking of another firemouth. mine is a male, so maybe a female. I just dont want my none aggressive male start snipping the whiskers off my pictus catfish.

Go for the barbs then, they'll stay high and give him plenty to chase and not catch.

Definately go with the filament or as they are called in these parts "mascara barbs". I have a school of 5 with my rare pleco pair. Beutiful barb especially when the males are breeding. Coolest flurrescent green ever.

ok we, my girlfriend and I, are going to a probably the best fish store in the area and taking a look at what he has. I have not seen them there before but after looking them up they do have a pretty green, but the torpedo barbs have the red, and on the other hand the giant danios do get the blue with a yellow strip.. so many choices..
