Many people have told me that a breeding pair of jack Dempseys in a 55 is fine. So I bought a "pair" of blue genes. I took a risk and it was just 2 sibling males that get along. Then started fighting and I need to sell/trade one.

I would like to get a female blue gene or ebjd but I haven't found any. Since a pair of jacks work, would there be any other female SA cichlids that I could pair the male as a hybrid pair? That would work in the long run?

A 55 is a good size for a pair of jds but a 75 is recommended to most people. But to answer your question, yes you can hybridize your jd male. I would say get rid of one and then you can pick up a variety of different cichlids to breed it with.
Some of these include-
Flowerhorn cichlids
Jaguar cichlids
Texas cichlids
Convict cichlids
Parrot cichlid
The others below im not sure about though
Firemouth?
Festae?

But most of those would require a tank update though. So if you want to use your 55 then you can grab a couple female convicts and hopefully they will hybridize! I love the look of cons x jds personally and the cons stay small so no need for an upgrade

Apparently with the last owner he had them in a tank with a pair of Texas and some other cichlids and he said the jacks were fairly docile.

When I brought them home in about 40 gals they got along until 2 days when the started fighting. They would lip lock and bite each other so I divided them. That's why I'm worried of putting the small convict female with one.

The bigger male is more agressive, but also more shy. The smaller male is less agressive and not as shy. But they are both fairly shy and skittish
