Would it be possible to stock a 55 gallon tank with:
1 red spotted sevurum
1 blue acara
1 sen bichir
Red white and blue

It would probably work but I thought you were stocking a 90 gallon lol, if your still deciding what tank to go with go with a 75 or 90, 55 gallons are way to thin.

A Severum grows just as big as an Oscar and is therefore WAY too big for a 55g tank.

I recommend the 75g or 90g , but if you HAVE to get the 55g, your options will be limited to smaller fish. Some Geophagus might work, but not Brasiliensis , for sure and not some of the others that may top 10"

Go with the 75g. Petco has them for $75 right now, Dollar-per-gallon sale until Jan 26th

If you want a bigger community with bigger cichlids like Oscars maybe getting a used 125 or 180 gallon tank would be a good idea, a used 125 or 180 will not cost a lot, I got my 180 for 200 dollars with stand and he threw in a free 54 gallon that I sold for 50 bucks. But 6 foot tanks are much better for cichlid communitys and give you way more options and more territory for disputes. And don't go for a 55 just go for a proper 4 foot tank like a 75. Also if you don't have space for a 6 foot tank you could go with a tank with a 4x2 footprint, it's not as good as a 6 foot 100+ gallon tank but still better than a 75. But a 90 is not much better than a 75 they have the same footprint so if you go bigger than 75 go with something with a larger footprint.

He could also do the 5 foot 120g (60"L X 18"W X24"H) as well, but for an extra $50 or so, the 125g would be better

PetSmart has either or as needed - i'm just saying if he doesn't have 6 feet of space available, the 120g is better than a 75g or 90g ......or 110g X-high for that matter
Good point, if he has space for a 5 ft but not a 6 ft a 120 gallon 5 foot in probably his best option (or a 150 gallon 5x2x2 but they aren't too common)
