I have 55 gallon with a new eheim 2217 and my water never seem to be clear. I also do at least 20% water change a week. Any tips on getting clearer water?

There's a lot of things that can cause water not to look pristine. Is it cloudy, or is it fully of waste, or is it algae? If it's tinged green, you have an algae issue. If it's full of waste/food, you need more filtration. If it's cloudy, you could be overstocked, may need to filter out smaller particulates, or you may be feeding a type of food that is bad for water clarity. You also may need to change more water than the 20% you're doing, or you may need to change it more often.

Basically, I guess I'm saying that without more information, all we can do is guess. What size tank do you have? What fish do you have in the tank? What do you feed them and how much and how often?

I agree with everything gervahlt and clockwork said. More info. And clean the outside of the glass. Whenever my granddaughters come over the tank looks horrible until i clean all their fingerprints and what not off the glass. Makes a huge difference.

I have to agree with those above......More specs and info needed like:

How long has the tank been running.....

Is the water coudy.........

Is the water brownish-muddy........

What kind os fish are in there........

What is the depth of the gravel, what kind of gravel(substate).........

If anything, add a HOB for more mechanical filtration, prefferably an Aqua Clear 70-101.......I guarantee the water will be clean within a week and forever........Keep up weekly water changes, maybe increasing to 30-35%........If intrested in toying with better, less expensive way of boosting the biological filtration, try a DIY wet/dry filter.......I have personally built many DIY filters for tanks above 100g for under the budget cost of $100..........
