so l have 2 55 gallon tanks and was considering taking the 2 long sides from both tanks and making a 4’ square tank for a total of 240 gallons, before l geet started l wanted to hear some input on it- thanks guys

Im glad you brought up glass thickness, one tank is 3/8” and the other is 1/2”- l dont think itll matter because lm not going taller- the pressure will build with taller tanks, but lm keeping the standard 21” height-

As far as the base goes, l was thinking 3/4” marine plywood with some kind of pond liner... l could also use advice on which to use-

How and with what would you eurobrace it with?

Thanks for the help

That all sounds like a good plan. I would use the bottoms of the 2 55g tanks for the euro brace. Just cut the bottoms into 6 inch strips for bracing.

I live that idea! Since you brought it up, the former sides would be perfect as overflows-

Any thoughts on waterproofing the bottom?

This guy tried the same thing, gave up and bought regular glass.

A cheap way to waterproof the bottom of a tank is to silicone together several pieces of 1/8" window glass and glue them them on top of the plywood. The glass is cheap, sometimes free, and doesn't need to handle any stress if it is held up by the plywood below.

There is no need for marine grade plywood. Just use a piece of 3/4 or 15/16 oak or birch plywood and seal it with pond armor or west systems epoxy
