55 gallon baby tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
55 G should be good for about 4-6 weeks !

75 is better, but after 2 months the fry will be to big to live in a same tank, the bigger will get all the foods and kill the smaller fish. I suggest if there are too many of them, you should take all the smaller fish and put into another tank !

55 Gallon would be fine, but once they get to about 2-3 inches, you should start trying to rehome/sell/cull them.

Haven't decided where I am putting what fish so it will dictate whether I use the 75 or the 55. 2-3 inches is when I would sell, giveaway, and cull. All if this will be pointless if my male turns out to be sterile which I really hope isn't the case.

after about 2 months, all the male should be 1.5-2 inches while the female are a lot smaller ! chose those whos largest, the bigger mean they are strongest and more likely to have big kok and the pearls in their body are already appear when they are about 2 months !

I have to disagree with that, The biggest fry out of a batch doesn't necessarily mean its gonna have the biggest kok. Some of the slower developers can develop bigger koks than the early bloomers.

Fry do get really competitive, but remember how the blue dempsey was overlooked for so many years because they were smaller.

IMO seeing the entire genotype play out over a larger spectrum is fascinating, and you can never tell with faders if thats what you have.... often traits come out only later

Raise as many as you can... but it helps to have something big like a featherback or snakehead so you can cull them when they're a little bit older : )

that or a lot of buckets

I said "more likely" not "its gonna have the big kok"!
