Hello MFK,

My 55 is currently stocked with just a single juvi flowerhorn about 3". I want to overfilter this tank with a canister filter since i'm always changing stock. My tank/stand is on carpet so i want one that isn't known for leaking. I was looking at an fx5, xp3/xp4, or an eheim classic 2217. I just dont know which to choose. They will all cost an arm/leg since the shipping to Hawaii is quite painful on big items. I noticed that the xp3 has a lot of issues with leaking? i dont know if thats the way it was manufactured or the people setting it up at home did something wrong. Any opinions and advice?

Thanks mfk.

I currently have an ac70 and penguin 350 but i have a 3d background that i want to install and i cant fit it with the filters in the way.

I think an Fx5 might be a bit strong on the flow rate. I had a single Fluval 405 on a 55g once and thought that was plenty of current. So I would suggest the xP3 or the Eheim 2217. I've only heard of issues with the xP4. Everyone who has an xP3 (mostly everyone) seems to like it. And it be honest, I just got an xP3 for the first time, but no hosing, so it's not running. And I have an Eheim Ecco 2236 which is was a disappointment with it's flow rate (rated for "up to 80g" and thought it was weak on a friend's 30g and then my 75g, but is just right for my 20g, lol).

Shipping to hawaii ain't that bad. I had a 2217 shipped to me. Bought the canister for $140 on sale and paid about $40 to ship to here. Paid about $180 total. I personally think that a 2217 will not be enough for a 55. I have one on a 30g with a 8" flowerhorn and the canister I fell is just enough without me needing to upgrade.

Xp4. That way if u uprgrade tank size u good to go. Just dont cut the tubes to short cuz if theres ANY tension from the tubes to can then it WILL leak. but thats an easy measure and add 3" slack. Easy. And great biofiltration keep an hob running tho

Well, $40 is a lot to me since im what you would call a poor college student.

I was reading about that issue with too much tension on the hose and i think id go crazy worrying about that 24/7.
