hello again fellows i set up a new 55 gallon tank an i got a ?. the ammonia is reading zero but my nitrate an nitrite are a little high. i have two cichlids in the tamk an a raphael catfish. i have treated tank with seachem stability an seachem prime. i have been treating the tank for 4 days an sunday will be the seventh according to the bottle it should be cycled in 7 days is this correct. when i set this tank up i took the old filter media out of the forty i had tried to set up an failed at because ammonia got to high. but the reason why was that there was to many fish in an uncycled tank. i also added some topfin ammonia detox to it. my ? is what could be causeing the high readings with the nitrate an nitrite

it can take longer then 7 days.. don't rely on the bottle to tell u when the cycle is done. rely on ur water parameters.

keep testing. when nitrite and ammonia are 0, then ur tank will have finished cycling.

the high readings of nitrite are caused by ammonia being converted into nitrite.

the high readings of nitrate are caused by nitrite being converted into nitrate.

this all represents a tank that is still cycling. be patient its almost done!

right i done a 20 % water change yesterday should i do another tommorrow

check the water parameters tomorrow and do more then 20%. do anywhere from 30-50% IMO.
