Okay so here I am planning my 29 gallon trying to find a good species to put in there. I just happen to check craigslist and some guy is selling a 55 gallon with tank, hood, and stand for 100$. Oh c'mon!

So heres the deal... I think im going to get the tank but i have my 29 gallon running. So whatever I want to put in the 55 I will grow out a bit in the 29 until I get the 55 gallon fully functional. But I definatly don't want the small cichlids I was going to get. I would love a pair of some sort of central american cichlid and fast moving tetras like buenos aires tetras. So far all I have is jack dempsey on mind. Im going to this really cool petstore in baltimore tommorrow hopefully to get what I want. Please help me descide!

Lyonsi, Silver Vieja, or Trimac. Maybe you'll like one of these. They are nice show fish for a 55gal. I doubt if you'll be able to put any other cichlid with them in that size tank though. Some moderate sized dithers would survive with these cichlids.

I think vieja and trimacs might grow too big for a 55. Is the tank even worth getting.

Most Vieja species get too big for a 55 IMO. I'd look into something that stays under 10" for that size of tank.

I like the look of the nicaraguan cichclids they look awesome. Would a pair tolerate some tankmates or is the tank too small?

It's hard to find the right Cichlid . You just have to go with your eye and what is appealing to you. I hav had all types of Cichlids My favorites are the Pike Cichlids. Good luck and enjoy your choice

I would say get a pair of salvini cichlids and a school of black skirt tetras

The JD would work fine in a 55 or maybe a green terror. I have been wanting to try out a Grammode, they grow slow and would work out in a 55 for quite a while.

get a bluegill or 2 and then get some cory cats!! heres a pic of the bluegill.
