I'm setting up a 55 for some discus. I was planing doing a half inch of white sand and some driftwood. For filtration I'm using two marine land 200's (rated for 50g each) and a 100g canister. I figured doing a 30% water change twice a week. As for fish I was planning putting 4 discus, 4 clown loaches, and maybe some gold rams. If I don't add any tank mates, how many discus could I be able to have? Input is appreciated

55g...... 5 maybe 6 adults. "T"

5 to 6 discus. I would highly recommend just doing barebottom until they reach adult size and dont put gold rams with them because they will beat them to all the food when it comes feeding time. Discus are slower eaters and pick at their food. I also would recommend more water changes then 30 percent twice a week. I would do almost 100 percent every other day and stay away from canister filters for growing out discus unless your planning on cleaning it out a lot. They hold a lot of bad bacteria and ammonia in them and other things. I always likes just using a couples sponge filters in a barebottom tank for growing out my discus. They grow much quicker that way with many water changes and many feedings. Its worth it in the end. Once theyre grown to adult size then you can add sand and driftwood. Just my two cents from what ive learned in my years of keeping discus
