Pretty much have my new 55 gallon fully cycled where I only had a Eheim 2236 running for now. However, I plan on adding another filter...either an XP3 or XP4. I know majority consider overfiltering the best type of filtering however there is that concern with adding too powerful of a current which would stress out the fishes.

Do you think adding the XP4 will be too much where it would add too much current flow in my 55 gallon tank or do you think it would best I just stuck w/ an XP3?

Not really because the XP4 has a valve to control the amount of flow and you can direct it against the glass so it's not streaming out into the tank. I have successfully been running the same setup Eheim 2236 and an XP4 on a 90 gallon tank, fully planted with 11 adult discus + cardinals + plecos. The key is to use a foam filter "sock" like the one on the Eheim with the XP4 intake screen and completely fill the XP4 baskets with bio-media, no foam pads needed inside the filter box. I have had absolutely no ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, or phosphate problems for over a year now with 25% water changes weekly. I rinse out the filter box with aquarium water about every 6 months or so, but honestly there's not much junk in there anyway so even that's being extra careful.
