Right now I have a 55 gallon tank and I plan on upgrading soon and I want to figure out what a good filtration idea would be for large south american cichlid tank I am still not sure the size of my next upgrade. I have 1 ebjd, 2 gold severums, and 1 pleco. They are all still small the largest is the the jack at 2.5 inches. I used to have an oscar in there he got too big too fast so I gave him to the LFS. I have 2 fluval aqua clear HOB filters rated for 70 US gallons. I would really appreciate to hear what others have to think.

IMO your filtration sounds fairly adequate for your stock and tank size. I'm assuming these guys aren't fully-grown since you're upgrading soon so just worry about the filtration then (unless you run into issues). Long term I'd lean more towards something like a couple of emperor 400's , a canister, or a wet/dry depending on your future setup.

you are 100% fine with what you have for now,,, those ac70's are great filters...I have a 90 gallon 5ft tank filtered by 2 of those plus a sponge filter running on a powerhead... crystal clear water and no problems

Ya the ac70's are perfect for the 55. I had the same setup about 3 months ago, I upgraded to a 406, and a 2213, but that was only for noise reduction. The 70's would be fine for as long as you need them.
