Two Sump Ideas. First I'm integrating a Moving Bed Filter into the Sump. Also Going with Scrubbies as the main Bio Media.

Moving Bed Filter

This is going to have K1 Media in it that is going to grow Algae and remove Nitrite and Ammonia from the System.

My problem is deciding on placement of this system inside the sump.

This design has the K1 afer the Scrubbies. My concern is that as the Algae Grows and breaks away from the media it's going to either Clog the Micro Bubble Collector, OR get put right back into the tank via the Return pump.

Design Two

This design would Catch any Algae that broke free from the K1 System. But do you guys think the Micro Bubble Catcher will work?

Let me know.

Nix the idea of a moving bed filter. They are an inefficient waste of space. Go back to that video and imagine how much more media could be packed into that tank (all the way up to the point that it can't move). And then know this: It makes no difference whether the media moves through the water or if the water moves through the media. (Truthfully, more is accomplished if the media is stationary and the water passes through; If the media is flowing within the water, it is actually locally stagnant.)

Oh, and find Santa Monica's thread about Algae Turf Scrubbers. A moving bed filter isn't intended to be a substitute. It can serve as a rudimentary ATS with proper lighting, but then you have the problem with over growth and harvesting.

Actually, you will be better served by adding an automatic water changer to the system.
