Hello peoples , i am new here but i am interested in starting a new sa/ca cichlid tank. have experience in fish keeping but not cichlids , i am thinking of having 2 or 3 medium size cihlids after some research i found : blue acaras, firemouth, salvinis, green terrors ,and convicts. What would be some good combos of these fish or others. Thank you

Other can chime in here but the green terrors might be a little cramped when they are full grown.

I would skip the Firemouth due to they prefer to be in a social group like tetras, and a big enough group would outgrow the 55

Same with the Green Terror. Much to big of a fish for a 55.

The Salvini may work but would be tight, probably a solo female would be best.

The Blue Acara would be good for a SA tank.

The Convict or one of its cousins like the Honduran Red Point or Nanolutea would be a good choice for a CA tank.

You could have a pair of either with some dithers and a small catfish.

You might be able to get small non-aggressive south American (not central American) cichlids to play nice in a 55. Some ideas would be dwarf crenicichla, Bolivian rams, biotodoma cupido. You could probably do pairs of two species that stayed small like this.Along with tetras, cory cats, etc. Would make a nice community display.
Most of the fish you had in your first post were central American and far too aggressive to play nice in a 55. The GT also would get too large as stated. Problem with a 55 is that it's still small in terms of footprint and territory, so not really large enough to try aggressive cichlids unless you want one fish, which would be fine with some of those like the salvini.

geophagus and severums can live in a 55
vague recommendation; what geophagus? There are tons of species, some get up to a foot long, others stay quite small. The small guys would likely be OK, steidachneri comes to mind.
On the severums, tank size is an opinionated topic always, but to me a fish that can reach 10"+ is too large for a 12" wide tank.
