Hey Guys so this is actually my first post but have been lurking around the site for a while and finally decided to make an account.

I have been keeping fish for around 2.5 years now and have decided it is time for me to move up to a larger fish. I have kept Puffers, A few variations of 4 to 5 inch cichlids, flower horns, and electric knife fish. Recently I came into a steal on a 125 that I will be moving my flower horns into which will free up a 55 I have. I am wondering what your suggesting a for a semi larger fish to go in the tank would be? Any tips suggestions would be appreciated. If it is a slow growing fish I will within the next 6 months to a year be purchasing a 150 minimum. Only thing that has stopped me from getting the Arowana I really want is the amount of time it takes for them to grow is relatively short. Any help is appreciated.

55 gallons and big fish don't mix. If you are looking to grow something out I'd suggest waiting until you have the bigger tank down the road. Any fish that needs a 150 or larger isn't going to last in a 55 for more than a few months.

An aro will need a minimum of, in my personal opinion, 300 gallons for life.

Thanks. Yeah I guess I kind of worded that improperly. I am mainly looking for something that will be of decent size for a 55. Not really looking to grow it out or anything would use that as a last resort type of thing. I have been thinking of possibly making the move to a few discus but am still doing a lot of research on those because every where I look there seems to be varying information but nothing solid that everyone agrees on. Thank you for your reply I do appreciate it. As for the Aro I have decided to hold off until I buy my new house which I will be putting a 4 to 500 gallon tank in but this will be down the road but I am excited none the less.

Welcome aboard :) Like stated Aro will outgrow the 125 or 150 in no time. What other species of fish did you have in mind?

for a 55 I'd suggest a school of exodons. That'd be pretty sweet for a 55, or you could do a pretty baller comm tank of different tetras.

Have been looking into Discus a lot lately, just a lot of varying info on them so I haven't decided if I should make the jump or not. I have thought about getting another Ghost Knife as I loved that thing when I had it. Other then that I am fairly open to suggestions. Predatory fish are more of my type of thing but do appreciate the others. I do like the The Aro is on hold until the new house sadly but I know that is what is best.

I have actually been looking at the Expdons which I think are pretty sweet. I have always loved the more predatory aggressive fish which I guess is why I like some of the puffers so damn much thanks for the suggestion. Have you had these before?

never kept exo's but I've heard they aren't all that tough. Cannibalism is the biggest issue if you don't have enough for the tank space provided or at least that's the number 1 thing I hear about them.

Gotcha yeah I am looking more into them at the moment around 10 is the minimum suggested to be kept to prevent the in fighting. I will for sure be looking more into them.

ya you can squeeze a ton of them into tanks, apparently they like being packed together moreso than other fish.
