55 Gallon Polypterus Tank

Finally got this tank up and running. Real simple setup. Pool Filter Sand, Marineland C-360 Canister, 60gph Air Pump. Light in pics is just temporary. I have a Marineland Double Bright fixture for this tank showing up in a week or two.

The Plecos may be finding a new home soon though. Just like the rumors, my Rhino Pleco has aquired a taste for slime coats and went over the Ornate pretty bad. I wanted to put the Ornate in with these Polys, but I had to keep him separate until he heals and/or I find a new home/tank for my Plecos.

thanks. and yes for now I will just have one of each. Eventually I will add multiples. I may even attempt to breed Polys at some point, but I haven't decided if I wanted to do a basic Endli breed or if I wanted to try an Endli hyrbid. I think an Endli x Ornate cross would be awesome, but I am not sure if it's possible


P.S: The Plecos are getting a new home today, except the Royal. The Rhino Pleco has aquired a taste for slime coats and has taken the life of my Ornate before I had the chance to transfer him to this new tank.. Anyone know if Royals are slime coat eaters? He is the only one that I haven't seen touch my Polys so I wasn't sure

I have heard they don't but you can never be too careful. I have a Royal with mine as well as a Hi Fin Pleco and a couple of britslenoses. So far no one has bothered my endlis.

I have never seen him mess with any of them, but that doesn't mean he hasn't. I just don't want to take any more chances after losing the Orante. If anyone has anymore info on Royals and Slime Coats then please let me know. I want to avoid more injuries at any cost.

Welp, the Marbled Sailfin and Rhino Plecostomus got a new home today in my friend's 70g. I kept the Royal just becasue I don't believe he will harm my Polypterus, but only time will tell. I have never seen him suck on the Polys before and I haven't heard much about Royals being big slime coat eaters in general so I think it'll be safe for now. Eventually I want to setup a Plecostomus/Community tank so I can house my different Plecos without worrying about them messing with my Polys.

I also ordered my Double Bright LED Fixture for this tank so soon I will have some nice pics with good lighting. Right now it is dark 24/7 except when I swap the 30g light over to check on things, but now that the problematic Plecos are gone I shouldn't have much to worry about.

If anyone has more info on Royal Plecos and Slime Coats please feel free to post on here. I do not want any problems with my Polys so if the Royal will be a problem PLEASE inform me ASAP. Thanks!
