Hello, I'm new here and need some advice. I've recently put up a 55 gallon tank aimed around a Senegal Bichir - currently at 2-3 inches long. However, I'm a bit nervous about what else to put in with him. I've decided on Rainbowfish but would like more of a variety - so, just wondering, would this be too much of a bioload for a 55g?

1 Senegal Bichir
6 Rainbowfish
2 Gouramis

The Rainbowfish are happier in schools and 6 is the minimum amount that will allow me to mix genders (I'd like to as the males like to show their colors off to the ladies) but I would also like a pair of Gourami. It's hard trying to find fish that will not become Bichir-fodder.

Sooo, what's everyone think? Is this too much? Thanks so much in advance!

i see no problem, the only thing that may be a concern is the dietary needs of the fish, as the bichir is the only carnivore, and they tend to be lazy eaters, letting other fish snatch their food before they can smell it out. I have to hand feed my bichir to prevent this.

^^^ Agree, my friend has trouble feeding her bichin, they are so slow. By the time they get to the food it's gone, other then that sounds fine.

sounds alright
