Ok so I have an empty 55 gallon tank. You know that feeling of needing to add water and fish. So here's what I'm thinking. I want a "wet pet" kind of fish. Solo or breeding pair that would be happy in the tank for life and colorful. What suggestions do you guys have?

Salvini cichlids are colorful and a pair would be perfect size in there. There isn't to much you can do with a 55

Cool thanks for the suggestion.

you can do alot with 55's I have 3 running just dont have single fish in them, but a for life a festivum,keyhole,convict,salvini,rams......... just not all in one tank, lol you also can add alot of other things to make the tank full and lively school of cory's or pictus cats.I like the small version of silver dollars, then theres tiger barbs, dwarf guarmis.....

I'd go for a planted community tank.

Use it as a quarantine tank for new fish that you put in your big tank

Or as a grow out tank for fish for your big tank

Mine is currently growing out a green terror and a fire eel.

Or you could do an EBJD, pearl gouramis, and pictus cats or clown loaches.....This may be my favorite idea for one of these tanks. In fact, do it, it'll be awesome.

I am getting a 55 delivered to me tomorrow afternoon (an offer i could not refuse) this is a good thread, it will give me some good ideas... keep it going guys, i do have a really cool salvini in the big tank, maybe i can transfer him/her and my lfs always has salvini's maybe i can get another one and also maybe a couple of convicts and a firemouth, i think that would be pretty cool and watch the UFC midget wrestling tournaments begin lol lol lol lol that tank will be all the way live!!!!

i would agree, planted tanks are awsome. go to youtube and check them out. its like landscaping for a tank they can look so cool

I got the 55 delivered but i was fortunate enough to find a couple of juevenile red devils, with the hopes of one being a grow out male for my female in the big tank, i will probably stock something else in there like a couple of convicts but my plan got a little derailed when i found these two gems...... good luck with your stocking..
