55 gallon stocking

My grandmother has had a fish tank for as long as I can remember, and she recently got rid of all her old fish and got 2 Salvini cichlids, 2 port cichlids, 6 tiger barbs, and 2 cory cats, and a pleco. I have already told her that the Salvinis will need to go so we're takig them back tommorow. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for replacements, preferably something hardy.

Why do you need to get rid of the salvinis, I would keep them the plec and the tiger barbs.

We have to get rid of the salvinis because my grand mother wants more of a community tank, but we found eggs in the tank this mourning, they're black and on the inside of a piece of drift wood, any idea who laid them.

The eggs could either from the port cichlid or the cory cats.

How big is the tank? The cories should be in a larger group so I'd you want to add more fish increase their group to 6 or more depending on the size of your tank.
