Hi, I have an empty fifty five gallon long. Wanted to get ideas for what to put in it, I think Cichlids are cool have zero experience with them, I want one big "show" fish then a bunch of little cichlids.

i'd do a vc10, a venustus, or a frontosa for your show fish. with the vc10 i'd do some mbunas, with the veustus i'd do some smaller peacocks, and with the front i'd do calvus's or brichardis.

no way. venustus and fronts get way too big for a 55 gallon. both of those fish get over 12" which is wider than that tank.

i'd go with all mbuna personally. very active and very colorful. labs, zebras, afras, rusties.

yeah mbunas would be better for a 55 g.

A few Discus? With the tank heavily planted and good lighting with some drift/bogwood it would look stunning :)

I agree, there isn't much in the way of large African cichlids that would work for a 55 gallon.

To the OP: if you want a larger show fish, you'll be better off going with SA or CA cichlids like an EBJD or a severum, but nothing that will get to over 10".

So what did you go with?
