Hey i just got a 55 gallon tank from my friend. It was in storage of his basement in a professionally crated box since he moved up here from florida. He is moving again and gave me this tank as its been boxed up for years.
looking at the tank its 100% i even just filled it to the top and it appears 100% no bowing in glass or anything, but what really annoys me are these small cracks?
im not exactly sure what they are but they are about half way up the tank horizontally. there are a few, the longest being maybe a centimeter.
Otherwise tank holds water and looks 100%. manufactured by AGA in 1987.
Also have the option of selling and picking up a new 55 gallon from my friend. bought it half year ago at the 1 dollar a gallon thing and hasnt set it up yet.

The best i can tell from the pics they appear to be scratches. If that is all they are it will be fine. If they are actualy cracks then i would not use it cause one day it will break.

id also say they look like scratches but the fact that they are all in a horizontal along the midsection. theres a small grouping to the left an then a random only a couple feet down to the right. and they arnt straight lines like a scratch but small squiggly lines. appears to be on the inside

They could be from large decor that had been in the tank. I have a few tanks with weird scratches. In the older tanks they used a little thicker glass. Not positive if all were tempered glass or not. If you can determine its just superficial then its safe.

so nothing small like that is suddenly going to crack or become a big problem? it just seems too weird that its all horizontal. across the center of the tank. and mostly on one side and then 1 or two on the other. buta ll the same level.

I had a 55 That had similar scratches. Mine came from the sand. Buring decor and rocks in the sand . I'm not sure if the older tanks were tempered glass if your worried leave it for a few weeks. If they spread then change the glass panel
