Hey guys on my 55 gallon oscar tank my top brace is cracking. Is this something that i should be really worried about. Its not fully broken but its getting there. Is there anything i could do and should i be worried about the glass flexing and coming apart.

thanks

stephen

Thanks. so you think i should just silicone it as best i can. i just can have 55 gallons of water pouring out into my room and running down the walls to the first floor. i think my parents would kill me.

make sure the tank is level, if it isnt and is coming apart due to that, then yes it will snap and your tank will get converted into a bowfront. Happened to my roomate, luckily I heard the brace snap, woke up, and drained it immadiatly.

ok thanks. good to know. iam looking into getting a 75 from my friend anyway. does anybody know if the glass on the bottom of the tank is tempered. I want to get mine drilled but if its tempered it will not work.

if that brace breaks completely, the force of the water pushing out will cause the glass to bow at a rapid pace, increasing the possibility that it will shatter, or break being most 55's are tempered glass, not all but most.

Most bottom panes of glass are tempered for strength. I would check if the tank is level. Open the cabinet doors and see if there are any gaps with the base shelf/floor and the walls. If there are then your tank is not on a level surface and the brace will probably break and the tank will leak or bust.
