Hello.

I was wondering what I should put into my 55 gallon aquarium.

I want to have a few options. Here are some of my interests:

1. Sunfish
2. Oscars
3. Bluegill
4. Cichlids

I want to be able to put 3-6 fish in my tank and I'd like to have advice as to what I should stock my tank with. Thanks!!! =)

I think you have to elaborate on cichlids. Oscars will be a no no, I wouldn't put one oscar in a 55. I dont know how big the blue gill and sunfish get but I think it may be the same case. Smaller SA or CA cichlids will work.

I like:

Electric Yellow Cichlids

Green Sunfish

Bluegill

Tiger Oscars

The electric yellows will be fine, I think. The oscars are a no-no. The bluegill will be fine for several years, but will eventually need bigger tanks, and agression can be an issue. Same with the Greens, although not quite so much on the agression in my experience. If your a beginner, I would avoid the centrarchids, and stick with the cichlids.

Bluegill can get 16+ but need alot of room to swim. 55 good to grow them out but adventually you will need something bigger like 100+ :) i am actually growing 3 out in a 55 now but soon will make it to my pond. they grow fast until about 6in then the grow rate seems to slow down rapidly.

i think i would go with a green terror or maybe a jack dempsey for the 55

Ok, so no oscars... those are out of the question.

Can I put yellow cichlids and green sunfish together?

green sunnies would probably try to eat the cichlids, and maybe one female green terror, i think a male would get too big
