Hey all. I got a 55g from HeathD so i broke down my 20g community and try my hand at Cichlids. I chose to go w/ Mbuna but had been fighting with myself on what to stock it with, and whether to do LFS or online.

Tank specs below:

Standard 55
AC 110 w/ cermanic beads and sponge
Aqueon 150W heater
Crushed Coral substrate
Unkown amount of holey rock, but enough to fill the tank. lol
got a CA 48" light fixture that got 6700k T5s and 65W atnicts (sp?)

Did fishless cycle w/o heater & holey rock, w/ ammonia and Stability....took about 3 weeks.

Went to KellerFarms in Haltom City, TX (suburb of Fort Worth). They've got the biggest selection of monsters and cichlids that's i've found. Walked in having an idea of what i wanted, but mind wasn't made up yet, especially most of the tanks are marked as Assorted Cichlids, though they did have some full breeds.

1x electric blue johanni
2x orange females
2x yellow/blue cichlids....1 looks familiar but not familiar enough w/ names yet
1x unkown
1x spotted hi-fin

the hi-fin looks a bit out of place cause he's so big....and noticing he's stubborn as heck. he keeps trying to get through a big hole in the big piece of holey rock, but it's a tad too small for him.

but ya, that hi-fin was most expensive and after acclimating him i was almost positive he was dead.......almost pulled the bag out an was gpmma set him aside n try taking back to lfs....but after meeting who i think the owner was, he would've told me tough poo. anyways, here's the pics

55g stocked for now

Hey, nice looking tank! Always love the look of THR and white substrate. It looks like your LFS does not feed their fish very well. Hopefully, all you need to do is fatten them up. good luck and congrats on the new setup!
